Bobrova Raľa Heritage Reserve
Traditional construction of farmyards in the Orava village of Podbiel. It is the largest preserved complex of original folk architecture from the late 19th century in Central Europe. It consists of sixty-four wooden houses, whose appearance is typical for the area of Central Orava.
Wooden houses with shingle roofs and adjacent yards and farm buildings line the main road. A way of living in back chambers and modified rooms built behind the house in a long line, which also extended the yard, has been established here. This characteristic complex of units built in rows behind each other is called Bobrova raľa. Originally, it consisted of 56 residential units built in 32 rows. It included 18 two-family houses, 2 three-family houses, and 1 with four residential units. The ceiling beams of the rooms in the wooden houses also preserved dating with the name of the builder of the house. The oldest preserved house is house no. 115 from the year 1833. Most of the buildings in the complex are no longer permanently inhabited, and several of them serve recreational purposes.
The entire complex was declared a Monument Reserve of Folk Architecture in 1977. In the reconstructed historical building of the former church school no. 194, a small ethnographic museum has also been established, displaying items that were used in domestic households of Podbiel in the past, in agricultural work, and also in liturgy.
